Giuseppe Sammartini was born in Milan, Italy. He had a younger brother, Giovanni Battista Sammartini, who also became a particularly renowned composer and oboist. Both brothers took oboe lessons from their French father Alexis Saint-Martin. Apparently, this 3-CD set recorded in 1994 has been re-packaged by Nuova Era and is listed at a bargain price in the Marketplace. I have a number of Sammartini discs, including a Naxos recording of some of these works performed by Aradia Ensemble on modern instruments.
